Most people are excited with the arrival of summer. This is also the season for all sorts of insects and especially mosquitos to welcome themselves into your home. We would like to show you how you can make your own essential oil mosquito or insect repellent.
Various options are available to protect yourself from insect bites. But it is basically spraying a pesticide on your skin. It also gives off a strong unpleasant smell. Whilst it keeps the insects away, it can cause skin irritations such as hives or rashes.
The main ingredient in most of these sprays is DEET. The National Pesticide Information Centre claims that DEET is not carcinogenic, it is however a well known neurotoxin.
There are some natural insect repellent available, that use lemongrass essential oil as the main ingredient. But it still smells a bit odd and too strong.
